Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark, the leading man in the Paramount and Marvel Studios movie version of "Iron Man". Head of a big industrial complex, he owes his super-powers to an indestructible, hi-tech suit of armor of his own design that has a variety of uses and earns him the title "Iron Man."
When he's not wearing it, this billionaire technophile relies on his Audi R8. It matches Stark's super hero guise very well: The slits through which Iron Man views the world resemble the all-LED headlamps on the R8, Stark's artificial heart with its ring of lights recalls the sports car's exposed mid-engine and his immensely tough armor is matched by the Audi Space Frame, the high-strength aluminum structure on which this hi-tech automobile is built. The film's hero and his favored mode of transport both symbolize Audi's famous technical leadership claim: "Vorsprung durch Technik."
"The Audi R8 is the perfect car for Tony Stark," says Iron Man's director Jon Favreau. "It's a technical masterpiece, it's fast and safe - and it's the ultimate eye-catcher." Tony Stark delights in luxury; he's intelligent, demanding and a lover of life to the full. Naturally he utilizes his exceptional abilities for the good of mankind - when he takes on the personality of Iron Man, his super-hero alter ego. There has never been a comic-strip hero with such a deep-seated understanding of technology and the opportunities opened up by innovation and progressive ideas.
The attitudes that the leading character represents were one of the main reasons why Audi became involved in this production: interaction between the role, the movie as a whole and the product is the decisive factor in successful product placement. Michael Renz, Head of Central Marketing at Audi, says: "The character and lifestyle of Tony Stark tie in very well with the attributes of the Audi R8. And in any case, "Iron Man" is one of the world's best-known, never-aging super-heroes - an opportunity we were determined not to miss!"
Hydrogen is abundant on this planet as the main component in water. Being able to make use of this element as a power source would lead to truly sustainable and clean energy. The fuel cell of the Hydro-Car allows hydrogen and oxygen to combine, producing electricity and water. This water can then be reused to extract hydrogen and oxygen so the system is one continuous cycle that can be sustained naturally. The Fuel cell is a reversible Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM).
The Hydro car uses electrolysis to separate the hydrogen and oxygen out of distilled water (provided by you). It stores this in the tanks located at the back of the car, to then combine the hydrogen and oxygen to power the car. The electrolysis though does require powering, and so the kit includes a solar panel to provide a clean source on energy to provide this. The kit does also come with a battery pack that requires two AA batteries that can be used instead of the solar panel.
Once the car has hydrogen and oxygen stored in its tanks it is ready to go. You can see when the car is running from its own hydrogen as two blue LEDs will light up and flash on top of the motor. The Hydro-Car is able to independently navigate around a room avoiding obstacles in its path, it can reverse until it discovers a clear path to travel along.
The Hydro-Car comes in kit form with detailed instructions. These instructions help to teach you about hydrogen power and its advantages and through making the kit and achieving a working car model you will have gained insight into how a hydrogen fuel cell works. The Hydro-Car makes a great educational toy to show children some of the latest eco-friendly energy ideas while being fun to operate.
More than 1,000 people were asked to name their favourite three inventions of the Noughties, and almost three-quarters (73%) included the social networking website among their choices.
The iPhone was the second most popular (62%), closely followed by networking website Twitter (58%).
Some of those questioned (8%) said jeggings - a cross between jeans and leggings - were among their favourite inventions and a small number (2%) even voted for X Factor's twins John and Edward.
The top 10 were Facebook (73%), iPhone (62%), Twitter (58%), the MP3 (51%), satellite navigation (46%), iPod (43%), YouTube (39%), high definition television (30%), GHD hair straighteners (23%) and 3D films (19%).
Eve Atkins, founder of website Offers Supermarket, which commissioned the survey, said: ''As the concept of our website is to offer consumers the top 10 best products available at any given time, which we research for the consumer, we thought it would be interesting to know what the buying public felt the top 10 products of the past decade were.
''Some of the things in the list have changed the way we live; the Sat Nav, for example, has made travelling much easier.''
She added: ''I am relieved that Jedward didn't make the list, I do feel that there have been much better inventions!''
:: 1,135 were surveyed online between February 16 and 23.
We all know someone who's a little gadget crazy. She was the first in line for the iphone -- because she camped out at the Apple store. He bribed his son or daughter with energydrink and extra allowance to sit up for hours waiting for the PS3, and has done unspeakable acts to get his hands on a Wii Fit. These people spend their weekends at places like the Home Depot, Brookstone and Sharper Image to fill their homes with really neat-looking stuff that doesn't have much purpose. Their spouses would probably tell you that the obsessive gadget blogging is taking the romance out of life.
You know the type.
This person has spent a lot of timeand money making home a more interesting place. So, hypothetically, if he or she were your neighbor, what might you come across in a tour of their abode? Well, we've got a list of 10 possibilities.
Some of these contraptions lack purpose. Some of them automatically do things that we take for granted or could easily do ourselves. Some of them are just there to add a little pizzazz to an otherwise ordinary existence. And some are downright useful.
